Trick Play

Trick Play means that a user sees a small image of the scene when fast forwarding or rewinding. This happens automatically on Roku using the remote control and on web when scrubbing along the progress bar.

How it works

During the transcoding process, our system creates thumbnails that the customer can then access in the browser. The thumbnails are created automatically for all assets transcoded after the 12th of October 2022.

Availability

Trick Play is available on Roku and the web (Chrome, Firefox and Edge). The Safari browser uses a time tooltip.

For this to work on custom frontend web pages you need to implement web player version 10.15.11 or higher.

Trickplay is available on the Android TV app starting with version 4.3 and Smart TV apps for Samsung and LG with app version 4.6.

It's our goal to add the feature to more devices. This requires that we add a new method to create thumbnails as the existing format can't be read by all devices.
